Candy Altman `77 and Joe Bergantino Scholarship

Candy Altman ’77 and Joe Bergantino led distinguished careers as journalists. Candy served as vice president of news for Hearst Television, and Joe was a leading investigative reporter and ABC News correspondent. Candy and Joe are advocates for media literacy, and continue to serve as mentors for journalists around the world. The Scholarship was created to support students enrolled in any major in the Communication and Media Studies Department and who have earned satisfactory academic achievement. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • For full time-matriculating students enrolled in any major in Communication and Media Studies.
  • Recipient(s) must be a sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Recipient(s) must have satisfactory academic achievement.
  • Recipient(s) must have demonstrated financial need
  • Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
  • Student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
  • Awards of $1,000 each will be distributed annually.
  • The scholarship is non-renewable.

    Preference:
  • For students of an underrepresented group.
