Community Scholarship for Student Volunteers and Interns

Established by SUNY Cortland Professor Emerita of Physical Education, Dr. LaRetha Leyman. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • awarded to a matriculated SUNY Cortland continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior level student in good academic standing
  • has a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • has completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at SUNY Cortland
  • volunteers or provides community service at a local community organization or plans to participate in an internship
  • enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
  • student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
  • has demonstrated financial need per FAFSA

Preference

  • is given to students who are working or volunteering or interning at the Cortland YWCA and
  • physical education majors
  • is given to female students

Requirements

  • Letter of recommendation from a SUNY Cortland faculty member from the students major course of study
  • (optional) Letter of recommendation from a staff member of the YWCA

This scholarship is not renewable.

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
