Student Government Association in Honor of Michael C. Holland

The Michael C. Holland Memorial Scholarship was created by the Student Government Association. Mike was the epitome of a student service representative. SUNY Cortland’s students were his number one priority and students found him to be their biggest advocate. Loving, caring, compassionate, supportive, a “corny” sense of humor – all of these describe Mike. He encouraged all the students that he met to get involved with their surroundings on campus or off because he believed that a person’s character was shaped by their experience.

Getting his start at SUNY Cortland as a Residence Hall Director, and later as the Director of Residence Life, at the time of his death Mike served as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs. During his tenure, he played an important role in bringingt the Multicultural Life and Diversity program to SUNY Cortland. He also served as an advisor to SUNY Cortland’s Student Government Association. Unfortunately, for the SUNY Cortland campus, Mike passed away while assisting an SGA club on a trip to Broome County to help with the flood relief in the fall of 2011. Mike is missed deeply by all those who were blessed to have him in their lives.
