Dr. Irene Dufek Thomas '63 Scholarship

The Dr. Irene Dufek Thomas ’63 Scholarship was established by Irene Dufek Thomas ’63 in memory of her favorite professor, Raymond G. Malbone, Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of English, who retired in 1991. Professor Malbone had a profound impact on Dr. Thomas’ education and influenced her decision to attend graduate school at Indiana University where she received her Ph.D. in English Language and Literature in 1971. Awards will be made annually to student(s) enrolled in any major within the English Department with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and a preference for demonstrated financial need.
Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • For full-time matriculating student(s) enrolled in any major within the English Department.
  • Recipient(s) must be a sophomore, junior, or senior level student with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
  • Student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year

  • Demonstrated Financial Need per FAFSA

  • This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable

    Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
