Michael J. O`Reilly `58 Scholarship in Science and Math Education

The Michael J. O’Reilly ‘58 Scholarship in Science and Math Education was established by Michael O’Reilly’ 58 as a credit to his Cortland education that provided a solid foundation for his teaching career. As an educator for 33 years in the sciences, Michael is passionate about supporting future generations of Cortland students interested in becoming junior high or high school educators. Awards are provided to students with satisfactory academic achievement and a priority for demonstrated financial need. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • For full time-matriculating students majoring in Adolescence Education: Biology, Adolescence Education: Chemistry, Adolescence Education: Geology, Adolescence Education: Physics, Adolescence Education: Mathematics or Adolescence Education: Physics & Mathematics
  • Recipient(s) must be a continuing sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Recipient(s) must have satisfactory academic achievement.
  • Scholarship amount will be approximately $5,000 and will be directed to offset the cost of attendance at SUNY Cortland.

    Preference
  • Priority will be for students with demonstrated financial need per FAFSA who are enrolled in the above stated majors.

    Renewability
  • The scholarship is renewable and students will continue to receive it as long as they meet the criteria.
