Sue S. '72, M '78 and Gerard M. Ruvo '71, M '73 Scholarship

The Sue S. ’72, M ’78 and Gerard M. Ruvo ’71, M ’73 Scholarship was created by Sue and Gerry to honor their experiences as SUNY Cortland students. Sue was a member of Sigma Rho Sigma and spent six years as an educator teaching English in Baldwinsville, NY. Gerry was a member of Delta Kappa Beta and was the first in his family to graduate college. He had a successful 45-year career in the spirits industry and retired in 2019 as CEO and chairman of Campari North America. Awards will be made annually to a junior or senior in any major, with an overall grade-point average of 3.0 and demonstrated unmet financial need. Preference will be given to first-generation college students. The scholarship is renewable.

Selection Criteria:

• For full time-matriculating students enrolled in any major.
• Recipient(s) must be a returning junior or senior.
• Recipient(s) must have a 3.0 minimum grade-point average.
• Recipient(s) must have demonstrated unmet financial need.
• Scholarship amount will be approximately $1,000 and will be directed to offset the cost of attendance at SUNY Cortland.
  
  Preference
• Preference is given to first-generation college students as defined by being the first in their family to go to college

  Renewability
• matriculated at SUNY Cortland
• enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
• maintain satisfactory academic progress per SUNY Cortland’s published Federal Good Academic Standing guidelines
• maintain have a 3.0 minimum grade-point average.
• Recipient(s) must have demonstrated unmet financial need.
  
  Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
