Marguerite Gomez '74 Family Scholarship
The Marguerite Gomez ‘74 Family Scholarship was established to honor Marguerite’s parents, Gilbert and Ida Gomez, who inspired their children to pursue higher education and obtain the opportunity that they were never offered. Recipients must plan to be teachers or work in STEM related fields with demonstrated financial need and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Preference will be given to students who are from underrepresented groups including first-generation college students. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- Awarded to a matriculated undergraduate level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
- Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a major under the biological sciences, chemistry, geology, physics or mathematics departments.
- Recipient(s) must plan to become a teacher or enter STEM related field after graduation.
- Recipient(s) must have a minimum overall 3.0 grade point average.
- Recipient(s) must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
- Recipient(s) must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
- Recipient(s) must have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA.
Preference
- Is given to first-generation college students.
Renewability
May be renewable, renewals are dependent on available funding as provided by the Cortland College Foundation
- Recipient(s) must be matriculated at SUNY Cortland
- Recipient(s) must maintain satisfactory academic progress per SUNY Cortland’s published Federal Good Academic Standing guidelines
- Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a major under the biological sciences, chemistry, geology, physics or mathematics departments.
