James F. Casey '50 Scholarship
Established by Patrick R. Brereton to benefit a student who best demonstrates leadership, commitment to the residence hall programs, and concern for the welfare of others. The scholarship was created in memory of James Casey ‘50 (1927-1981), who was SUNY Cortland’s first director of student housing. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- awarded to a matriculated sophomore, junior or senior level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
- has high academic achievement minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- have attended SUNY Cortland for a minimum of 3 academic semesters
- current or past residence hall staff member or hall council president for at least one semester
- enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
- student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
Preference
- is given to student who have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA
- is given to students with demonstrated leadership
- is given to students who have demonstrated a dedication to residence hall program
- is given to students who have demonstrated a concerns for the welfare of others
Renewal Information
- This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable
Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
