John and Barbara Fauth Geology Scholarship
The John and Barbara Fauth Geology Scholarship was established by their family to recognize 35 years of dedication to undergraduate education. John began his career at SUNY Cortland in 1964 and retired as professor emeritus of geology in 1999. He served as department chairperson for the last 17 years of his career. In 1979, John secured a National Science Foundation grant to build the Brauer Education Center near Albany, NY. John and Barbara invested considerable time into “Brauer,” a rustic facility that has provided educational and fieldwork experiences to students from across the country. Known on campus for his meticulous preparation, challenging pedagogy, and tireless effort to improve the writing skills of his students, John exemplified his motto, “be worth a damn.” This scholarship will be awarded to students with a minimum 3.0 grade point average, enrolled in any major under the Geology Department.
