Sylvia Stokes Memorial Scholarship
The Sylvia Stokes Memorial Scholarship was established by one of Sylvia’s former tennis players and physical education students, four-star General Ann E. Dunwoody ‘75 and her husband Craig Brotchie, to honor Sylvia’s extraordinary contributions to SUNY Cortland. Sylvia joined the SUNY Cortland faculty in 1965 as an instructor in the Women’s Physical Education Department. She taught and coached until her retirement in 1993. The scholarship will be awarded to students with satisfactory academic achievement in any major at SUNY Cortland. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- awarded to a matriculated continuing undergraduate at the sophomore, junior, or senior level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland.
- enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester) in any major.
- student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year.
Preference
- Recipient(s) have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA.
Renewal Information
- This scholarship is a one time award and is non-renewable.
Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
