Helen Y. Nelson Memorial Scholarship

To establish a memorial scholarship fund in the name and memory of Helen Y. Nelson, to annually benefit a student or students emphasizing the study of music in the Department of Performing Arts.. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

• Candidates must be full-time musical theatre majors at SUNY Cortland.
• Candidates must have a minimum of one full academic year remaining at SUNY Cortland.
• Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average within the musical theatre major.
• Candidates should be enrolled in a music ensemble or participating in a theatre production, or have been enrolled in an ensemble or a theatre production in a previous semester.
• Candidates must sing an audition for consideration of eligibility.
• Candidates must demonstrate talent, scholarship and timely progress toward completion of the student’s undergraduate program of study.

Application Requirements

• Students should apply through Academic Works and also obtain an additional application through Performing Arts Department.
• Audition required. Applicants should schedule their audition through the Performing Arts Department.

Renewal Information

• This scholarship is non-renewable. Candidates must apply each year.

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
