SUNY Cortland Civic Engagement Scholarship
SUNY Cortland Civic Engagement Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate strong leadership and community service qualities. Those who are currently serving or who have served in an active leadership role in high school and/or their community will be considered as eligible candidates. Please note that participating in athletics is excluded from consideration due to NCAA regulations.This scholarship is funded by donations made to the Cortland College Foundation and from Cortland Auxiliary Services. Funding is based on availability. This award is available for fall and spring semesters.
Selection Criteria:
- awarded to an entering freshman student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
- must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average
- must reside in a SUNY Cortland residence hall
- demonstrated leadership and community service through the admissions application
- enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
- student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
Preference
Primary consideration given to students who have achieved a status listed below:
- Eagle Scout
- Gold Award
- Class President or Vice President
- President or Vice President of other clubs/organizations
Secondary consideration given to students who are/were involved in community service activities or have participated in an active leadership role involving their school and/or surrounding community:
- Significant volunteer activities
- Other class officers in clubs/organizations
Renewal Information:
- must be a matriculated student at SUNY Cortland
- must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average
- must live in a SUNY Cortland residence hall
- maximum of $6,000 ($750 per semester for eight semesters)
