Gilbert C. '51 and Shirley Haft Brown '51 Memorial Scholarship for the Extraordinary
The Gilbert C. ‘51 and Shirley Haft Brown ’51 Memorial Scholarship for the Extraordinary was established by their children, Gerald Brown and Adrian Brown Kuzel, in memory of their parents who loved Cortland and valued education. Shirley achieved a master’s degree in reading instruction and was an educator in both Brazil and the U.S. for most of her life. Gil was a Distinguished Alumnus and spent over 48 years in overseas education, calling the world his community. Gil and Shirley felt that alumni and students owe the College more than can be repaid. He has been quoted as saying “What it has done for me, and for Shirley, is far beyond our reach to compensate in either word or deed.” This scholarship will support students in need by helping them achieve a college education. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
