Dr. Timothy J. Baroni and Robin Wheeler Baroni Scholarship in Biology

The Dr. Timothy J. Baroni and Robin Wheeler Baroni Scholarship in Biology was established by Timothy J. Baroni, Distinguished Emeritus Professor, and Robin Wheeler Baroni, to support dedicated students in the field of biology. Professor Baroni enjoyed 37 years of teaching and research on the biodiversity of temperate and tropical macrofungi on a global scale. In addition, he guided 53 undergraduate students in independent study/research projects in field and laboratory investigations. The Baronis established this scholarship to help promote the training of future ‘earth doctors’ who will be committed to caring for the continued health of our planet. Recipients will be undergraduate biology, conservation biology or adolescence education biology majors. Preference will be given to conservation biology majors and applicants with demonstrated financial need.
Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Scholarship Criteria

• awarded to a matriculated undergraduate level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
• enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
• First preference will be given to Conservation Biology majors. If there are no eligible Conservation Biology majors, then secondary consideration will be given to Biology or Adolescence Education Biology majors.
• student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
• Candidate(s) must have satisfactory academic achievement

Preference

• preference will be given to Conservation Biology majors
• demonstrated financial need per FAFSA

Candidate(s) must submit an additional short essay (approximately 500 words) discussing the importance of conserving natural resources and how they envision their professional goals contributing to this area or describe a research project they would like to undertake as an undergraduate that might address a topic in conservation.

• This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
