Vivian H. Heyward ’68, M ’71 Exercise Science Scholarship
The Vivian H. Heyward ’68, M ’71 Exercise Science Scholarship was established by Dr. Vivian Heyward in appreciation of the excellent education that SUNY Cortland provided as a foundation to launch a successful career in higher education. Regents Professor Emerita of Exercise Science at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and a SUNY Cortland Distinguished Alumna (2002), Dr. Heyward, founded UNM’s B.S. in Exercise Science degree programs in 1984. She authored nine editions of the textbook, Advanced Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescription, which has been in print since 1984 and published in seven languages. Awards will be made annually to exercise science or strength and conditioning for human performance majors with a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- For full-time matriculating student(s) majoring in exercise science or strength and conditioning for human performance.
- Recipient(s) must be a sophomore, junior or senior level student
- Recipient(s) must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
Preference - * Recipient(s) have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA
Renewal Information - This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable. Students must apply each year.
Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
