Lawrence Debel ’67, C.A.S. ’71 Scholarship
The Lawrence Debel ’67, C.A.S. ’71 Scholarship was established by Lawrence (Larry) to honor the education he received at SUNY Cortland and its lasting impact on his professional success, which included serving as District Coordinator for Physical Education, Health and Athletics at Valley Stream Central High School District. As a graduate of Bronx High School of Science, Larry is passionate about giving back by supporting students from his hometown who are pursuing similar career paths. This scholarship will be awarded to student(s) from Bronx County, majoring in physical education with satisfactory academic achievement. Should there be no eligible student(s) from Bronx County, then secondary consideration will be given to any physical education major. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- For full-time matriculating student(s) majoring in physical education with priority given to those from Bronx County. Should there be no eligible student(s) from Bronx County, then secondary consideration will be given to any physical education major.
- Recipient(s) must be a sophomore, junior or senior level student.
- Recipient(s) must have satisfactory academic achievement.

Renewal Information
- This scholarship is non-renewable. Students must apply each year.
Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
