Frank A. Burdick Scholarship in History
The Frank A. Burdick Scholarship in History was established by Margaret Palmer Young ’85 and Charles H. Young ’86 to recognize in perpetuity the teaching career of SUNY Cortland Professor Emeritus of History, Frank A. Burdick. This scholarship will support incoming students majoring in history or adolescence education: social studies and history (7-12) who are graduates of a Cortland County high school. Secondary priority will be given to graduates of any Central New York high school followed by graduates of any high school in New York State. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.
Selection Criteria
- For full-time matriculating student(s) majoring in history or adolescence education: social studies and history (7-12).
- Recipient(s) must be an incoming student.
- Recipient(s) must have satisfactory academic achievement.
- Recipient(s) must be graduates of a Cortland County high school, should there be no eligible applicants then second priority will be given to graduates of any Central New York high school, followed by graduates of any high school in New York State.

Renewal Information
- may be renewable, renewals are dependent on available funding as provided by the Cortland College Foundation
- continued funding is based on student maintaining a 2.7 cumulative grade point average
- remaining a history or elementary education- social studies or adolescent education – social studies major
- matriculated at SUNY Cortland
- remains a resident of Cortland County
- enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
- maintain satisfactory academic progress per SUNY Cortland’s published Federal Good Academic Standing guidelines
- This scholarship is renewable and may follow the same student as long as the student continues to meet the criteria.
Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
