SUNY Cortland Graduate Diversity Fellowships

The Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship Program (ESDHSP) and the Graduate Diversity Fellowship Program (GDFP) (known collectively as “Diversity Scholarship Programs”) are designed to direct aid to undergraduate and graduate/professional students, respectively, who have demonstrated academic achievement and overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Candidates will contribute to the diversity of the student body by demonstrating their commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion effects in their academic programs and activities.. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

To participate in the ESDHSP, candidates are required to:

• Be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status and
• Demonstrate how they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education..
• Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the diversity of the student body by facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in their academic programs and campus activities.
• Be a matriculated graduate level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
• Be enrolled in coursework that is applicable towards their degree program

Preference will be given to candidate who are:

• From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates)
• First-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree)
• able to demonstrate a history of overcoming adversity
• AmeriCorps alumni
• U.S. Veterans (e.g., Airforce, Army, Marines, Navy, etc.)

Renewal Information

• This Scholarship may be renewable, renewals are dependent on available funding
• award amounts may vary from year-to-year
• Recipient must be matriculated at SUNY Cortland and enrolled in coursework that is applicable towards degree program
• Recipient must maintain good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
