David E. Turybury '90 Family Scholarship in Education and Physical Education

The David E. Turybury ‘90 Family Scholarship in Education and Physical Education was established by David and his wife, Sheila Turybury. In creating this scholarship, David’s intent was to honor several faculty including Dr. Norma Carr, Dr. Joan Sitterly and most notably, Ms. Phyllis McGinley, who offered three attributes that have held true in life as a teacher, coach and father. They are to be firm, fair and consistent. Recipients must be adolescence education, childhood education or physical education majors who are studying to become teachers. Recipients must also have a minimum overall 2.5 grade point average and demonstrated financial need. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

• awarded to a matriculated freshman, sophomore, junior or senior level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
• recipients must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
• recipients must be majoring in physical education, adolescence education, or childhood education
• recipients must be involved in a campus activity
• recipients must plan to become a teacher after graduation
• recipients must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
• recipients must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
• recipients must have demonstrated financial need per FAFSA

Renewal Information

• may be renewable, renewals are dependent on available funding as provided by the Cortland College Foundation
• recipients must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
• recipients must be majoring in physical education, adolescence education, or childhood education
• recipients must be involved in a campus activity
• recipients must plan to become a teacher after graduation

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
