Vince J. Gonino Memorial Scholarship

Established by alumni, faculty and friends of Dr. Vincent J. Gonino with the intention to recognize in perpetuity his contributions and educational career at SUNY Cortland. As a former faculty member in physical education and a coach of the wrestling team for two decades, Dr. Gonino encouraged his students to focus on certain characteristics which were important to him: make a difference with children and adolescents, commitment/involvement, honesty, loyalty and integrity. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • awarded to a matriculated sophomore or junior level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
  • has a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • is a full time-matriculated student enrolled in physical education or exercise science.
  • has completed one full year of study at SUNY Cortland
  • has demonstrated characteristics which were important to Dr. Gonino:
  • desire to make a difference with children and adolescents
  • commitment/involvement
  • honesty, loyalty and integrity
  • enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
  • student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
  • has demonstrated financial need per FAFSA

Preference

  • given to returning sophomores

Renewal Information

  • This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
