Dr. Katharine A. Pawelko '74, M '78 Outdoor Education Practicum Award

The Dr. Katharine A. Pawelko ’74, M ’78 Outdoor Education Practicum Award was created as a means of appreciation for the opportunities her SUNY Cortland education and experiences provided throughout her storied career in the field. It will support SUNY Cortland students who are actively using outdoor experiences to serve others and enhance their career paths related to Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Education, Recreation Management or Therapeutic Recreation. Preferences for the award will go to students exhibiting an interest in Natural Resource Recreation Management and involvement with professional outdoor-related agencies and organizations, but students in any RPLS major, minor, or concentration enrolled in REC 370 or REC 570 will be considered. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • Awarded to a matriculated sophomore, junior, senior or graduate level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland.
  • Enrolled in REC 370 or REC 570 at the time of application.
  • Award amount per student will be approximately $600 with total spending to be approximately $1200 per year, and will act as reimbursement for course fees associated with attending the Outdoor Education Practicum.
  • The award is non-renewable and is awarded for the semester in which the practicum takes place, currently the spring semester.
  • Recipients must not have been awarded other scholarships/awards that have reimbursed this specific course fee.

Preferences
• Pursuing a concentration in or displaying interest in Natural Resource Recreation Management.
• Involvement with professional outdoor-related agencies and organizations.

Scholarship funding is contingent on the completion of the required coursework
