Donald and Donna Traver '59

Donald and Donna Traver graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1959. While here Donald was actively involved in campus activities; he was a member of the Beta fraternity, Cardinal Key, Student Government, Chair of the traffic committee, and involved in wrestling. He was a secondary guidance counselor in Webster, NY, until he retired in 1992. In 2005 Donald was asked to join the Board of Directors of the Cortland College Foundation. He was also a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the American School Counselor’s Association.

Donna graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in physical education and received her Master’s in Science in education at Brockport in 1967. Donna was a member of the New York State Teacher’s Association, the Association of Women in Physical Education in New York State and the Pittsford Teacher’s Association. She was nominated to the Board of Directors of the Cortland College Foundation in 2004.

Donald and Donna are enjoying their retirement, as of 2005 they had spotted 4,677 species out of the 10,000 bird species of the world. However, they have no forgotten about SUNY Cortland. In memory of Colleen Mara Beaudry ’60 they donated money for a memorial at Raquette Lake. In 1999 they created they Donald and Donna Bell Traver Scholarship in Physical Education. The Travers have also planned for endowments that provide equipment and wilderness clothing awards for students that are required to attend the physical education 308 field practicum, as well as the Physical Education Raquette Lake Program fund, and the Outdoor Education Center at Raquette Lake endowment fund.
