Donna Bell Traver '59 'Malalah' Scholarship

Established by Donald Traver ‘59 to honor his wife, Donna Traver ’59 who believed in education and equality. Awarded to a student who exemplifies courage and determination, despite overwhelming odds, to acquire an education. The recipient will also have the potential to be a fearless leader who will work for educational rights for all and to be an inspiration for others much as has the teenager Malala Yousafazi, of Pakistan who became an education and women’s rights activist. Award will be split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Funding is based on availability.

Selection Criteria

  • awarded to a matriculated freshman, sophomore, junior or senior level student in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland
  • has minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • leadership potential
  • enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester)
  • student must have at least one full academic year remaining at the start of the fall semester of award year
  • has demonstrated financial need per FAFSA


  • students who are first or second generation students from an emerging nation.

Renewal Information

  • This scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable

Scholarship funding is determined by the Cortland College Foundation. Scholarship amounts and availability are subject to change.
